MOGADISHU (online warar) - A week after armed militants attacked a hotel inside the presidential palace's security perimeter, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged parliament leadership and permanent committees to halt a motion on the country's deteriorating security
The president expressed concern about the motion during a meeting on Sunday night, fearing that it would pave the way for a no-confidence vote against the current government. On Saturday, more than 50 MPs voted in favor of a motion asking the speaker to summon security officials for questioning as security in Mogadishu's green zone deteriorates.
MPs claimed that their lives were threatened due to frequent security checks by government troops, adding that in some cases, they were ordered to walk through checkpoints without bodyguards.
The Somali President encouraged parliament to approve important laws proposed by the cabinet and to play a critical role in the ongoing fight against the Al-Qaeda-aligned militant group Al-Shabaab.
